Study of a second language at an early age is shown to bolster critical thinking 和 problem solving skills, as well as enriching student underst和ing of the 多样性 that exists in the world. The study of Hebrew at Rodeph Sholom School in particular fosters in our students a deeper connection to Jewish communities in 以色列 和 throughout the world, 过去和现在. It also makes the Jewish bookshelf more accessible 和 keeps the language alive for future generations.

Our service learning program is rooted in the Jewish tradition that study leads to action 和 compels us towards a lifelong responsibility to our communities 和 the world at large. Through the responsibility outlined in Jewish tradition, students engage in tzedek -公平和正义. This framework is put into action as all of our students engage in a variety of service learning projects throughout their Rodeph Sholom School journey.

以色列 education at Rodeph Sholom School primarily takes place in Hebrew 和 犹太研究 classes as well as part of informal educational programs. Students also learn about 以色列i culture 和 the 多样性 that comprises the fabric of 以色列i 社会 including the various Jewish 和 non-Jewish groups. Students learn about some of the different ethnic 和 religious minorities who live in 以色列, especially those which students will encounter on the 以色列 trip. 学生们学习以色列文化, consider historic 和 contemporary expressions of in 犹太研究 class, 庆祝Yom Ha 'Atzmaut(以色列独立日).

In preparation for the Eighth Grade 以色列 Trip students examine the history, 多样性, 和 culture of the State of 以色列 from the early 20th century to today. This course dovetails the 8th Grade 犹太研究 curriculum by building on their knowledge of late 19th 和 early 20th-century Jewish history as it relates to Zionism, 以色列国的建立, 和 its current importance 和 centrality of 以色列 in Jewish 人hood.

Tefillah

Tefillah at Rodeph Sholom School provides a weekly opportunity for individual reflection, 公共集成, 体验犹太仪式的美和逻辑. Our tefillah program provides a vehicle for expressing gratitude, 希望, 和 dreams of what could be 和 allows students with the opportunity to connect the self, 社区, 和上帝. 

Students learn the necessary skills to become active participants in tefillah, 担当领导角色, 并感到舒适和自信地表达自己的想法.  Students in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade take part in a weekly Kabbalat Shabbat experience. Kabbalat Shabbat offers students the opportunity to connect the weekly Torah parsha 和 Jewish values as they reflect on the previous week, 展望安息日, 并将其与当前事件联系起来. 

假期
